The 8 Most Anticipated VR Games of 2022

VR gaming is an ever-advancing field. Manufacturers consistently create new VR headsets, such as the PlayStation VR 2 for the PS5. Moreover, video games made especially for VR are becoming more engaging and realistic, ensuring that VR will become a staple in the gaming world. The following are some of the most anticipated VR games slated to hit the market in 2022.

Hitman 3

Hitman 3 will be playable in VR to PC players this January. The PlayStation VR exclusivity has finally run out, giving IO Interactive’s wildly popular assassination simulation a new lease on life with a new audience. The PlayStation version featured barebones motion controller support via the DualShock 4, but Oculus Rift S and Valve Index players will benefit from full support with their devices.

Moss: Book II

The original 2018 Moss was a delight to play on the PlayStation VR. With Moss: Book II, developer Polyarc will build off all the elements that made the original game endearing. In addition, adorable protagonist Quill will battle bigger enemies in various new levels and settings, building on a winning formula that could make Moss: Book II an even bigger hit than the original.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

While the GTA remastered trilogy was an abject failure, fans still hope that San Andreas VR will deliver. A fan-favorite entry in the ridiculously lucrative franchise, San Andreas VR will be an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive. Whether it will actually release in 2022 is a subject open to debate — but with Grand Theft Auto 6 being a distant fantasy, the team at Rockstar should probably release something in 2022 to keep fans salivating for more.

Cities VR

For years, the Cities series of town-building games have served as the spiritual successor to the SimCity franchise. As an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive, Cities VR will take the franchise into the headset space. How a comprehensive, in-depth city-building simulation will be simplified enough to be played in VR is still a mystery. Unfortunately, the debut trailer didn’t show much. Developer Fast Travel Games has the ambitious task to make it all work — and players will find out for themselves if it’s all worth the hype when Cities VR is released this spring.

Little Cities

While we don’t know much about how Cities VR will operate, that’s not the case at all with Little Cities. Players will float above their urban creation and use floating menus to interact with the environment. It’s a gameplay concept that brings to mind the Super Nintendo classic Actraiser — but without the side-scrolling beat-em-up sections. Instead, Little Cities aims to make this genre more approachable. It will be fun to see it accomplish the goal. Right now, it’ will release on Oculus Quest 2.

Assassin’s Creed VR

Over a year has passed since Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed was coming to Oculus VR. Since then, the only mention of the game has been in an online job posting. So why is Ubisoft playing it so close to the vest? The answer could be that the developer is waiting to wow audiences with a debut trailer under the perfect conditions. Otherwise, the game could still be several years away from release. Hopefully, the real answer is somewhere in between so the game can hit Oculus devices in late 2022.

Splinter Cell VR

In the same Ubisoft announcement that foretold Assassin’s Creed VR, they also confirmed Splinter Cell VR. Fans have been clamoring for a new Splinter Cell game since the 2013 release of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Red Storm Entertainment is undertaking both Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell projects, so here’s hoping they didn’t bite off more than they can chew.

Ziggy’s Cosmic Adventures

One look at the latest trailer for Ziggy’s Cosmic Adventure and it’s impossible not to picture Buzz Lightyear in VR. The familiar appearance of the green alien beings in the trailer recalls the Little Green Men from the Toy Story franchise. The rest of the game also fits the Buzz Lightyear genre of space exploration. As a total package, it looks like a blast to play. Oculus Quest 2 and PC VR players will get to immerse themselves in Ziggy’s Cosmic Adventures at some point in 2022. It is one of the most anticipated VR games.
