Meet the Casio Slimline New G-Shock MTG-B3000

Casio’s G-Shock watches are now over 40 years in the making. These watches are rugged, distinctive, and often colorful. In addition, they just got slimmer. The watchmaker’s latest model, the new G-Shock MTG-B3000, is Bluetooth-enabled, solar-powered, and radio-controlled.
The MTG-B3000 promises to be among Casio’s most cutting-edge G-Shock watches ever. Moreover, it is slimmer than any of its closest predecessors, making it the thinnest solar-powered G-Shock chronograph to date. As far as Casio’s existing G-Shock-branded MTG models, the slimline new G-Shock MTG-B3000 follows in the footsteps of the MTG-B1000 and MTG-B2000.

Popular Predecessors of the Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000

Both the Casio G-Shock MTG-B1000 and MTG-B2000 have proved popular. However, while Casio’s iconic G-Shock lineup is famed for its chunky designs, both received at least some criticism for their overall bulkiness. Accordingly, the manufacturer has worked hard to shave around ten percent off of the overall thickness of its new watch.
While that may not sound like much, Casio promises that the difference is immediately noticeable. It’s a doubly impressive feat in at least one other sense, too. Casio has made the G-Shock MTG-B3000 slimmer without compromising on the new watch’s rugged construction.

Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 Is Stronger Than Ever

If anything, the Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 should be even stronger than previous MTG models, thanks to its revised carbon-reinforced monocoque case. Meanwhile, the addition of a unique case back, forged into a three-dimensional form from a solid piece of intricately shaped stainless steel, should make it supremely comfortable to wear at the same time.
Cleverly integrated moldings also allow the same forged case back to serve as the lugs to secure the MTG-B3000’s interchangeable bands. It’ll simultaneously help guard the watch’s crown and buttons as well.

Slimmed-Down Circuitry and More

All of this and more ensure that the new Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 is as slim as possible. It’s something that’s amplified further by Casio’s use of a new, optimized circuit board layout. In addition, the manufacturer has also sought to integrate the MTG-B3000’s electronic componentry into the rest of its construction via what it calls high-density mounting technology.
Other highlights of the Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 include:
The G-Shock MTG-B3000 is then topped off with a scratch-resistant, ultra-clear sapphire crystal, which serves as the window into the watch itself.

Impressive, but at a Cost

Unfortunately, all of this comes at a cost. Casio has yet to announce a launch date for the G-Shock MTG-B3000 outside Japan. Instead, the new G-Shock model will launch exclusively in its home market in May at the cost of approximately ¥120,000 or around $1,000.
Of course, the solar-powered and radio-controlled G-Shock MTG-B3000 isn’t a true smartwatch. However, its built-in Bluetooth technology means that it’s up against both traditional timepieces and the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4 and the Apple Watch Series 7 to one degree or another. With that, there’s stiff competition from all angles.
There are also several distinct similarities between the Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 and Garmin’s new-for-2022 Instinct 2 Series smartwatches. Priced from just $349.99 and with Instinct 2 Solar models starting at $449.99, the equally rugged but arguably more feature-packed alternative from Garmin feels like a bargain by comparison.
Elsewhere, and at upwards of $1,000, the Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000 is more expensive than even Apple’s costliest Watch Edition models. It’s also not far behind its flagship Hermes-branded options created in collaboration with the French luxury design house. As such, and whichever tech-forward watch a buyer lands on, it’s crucial that they protect it with an extended warranty.
