Meta (Oculus) Quest 2 Setup to Start Gaming Right Away

Congratulations on purchasing your Meta (previously known as Oculus) Quest 2. You now have access to some of the best video games and fitness routines on the market. Here’s everything you need to know about the Quest 2 setup right out of the box.

Unboxing your Meta Quest 2

Carefully open your Meta Quest 2 box. Inside, you should find the following devices and cords:

  • Meta Quest 2
  • 2 x Touch Controller
  • Charging Cable
  • Glasses Spacer
  • Power Adapter
  • 2 x AA Battery

If you’re missing any of these included items, make sure to immediately contact the seller (if you bought it from a retail store) or the manufacturer. Once you’ve double-checked that everything is in the box, go ahead and remove the Quest 2 headset and the charging cable.

Plug the charging cord into the USB-C port on the left side of the headset and allow it to charge while you read through the manual in the box. When the headset is charged, the light will change from orange to green.

You can also use the Meta Quest 2 while the device is plugged in or charging. However, if you’re using the device for the first time, it’s easier to get set up when the device is fully charged. The device’s battery life will last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Initial Setup and Adjustments

After the headset finishes charging, go ahead and put it on. At this point, don’t worry about what pops up on the screen. Instead, focus on the fit. You want the headset to feel snug but not tight. There are sliders on the straps that will allow you to adjust the fit. Take the headset off to adjust the straps.

To loosen the straps, move the slider forwards. To tighten them, move them back. Next, adjust the top strap so it sits in the middle of your head. If you wear glasses, you should also attach the glasses spacer. Do this by removing the foam and connecting the lens spacer to the four snapping areas on the headset. It should click into place when you apply light force. Finally, place the foam lining back onto the headset.

Put the headset on to ensure that everything fits correctly. You can also move the headset up and down to adjust the angle of the headset.

Some people might choose to purchase the Elite Strap with Battery for a more comfortable fit during long VR sessions. The Elite Strap with Battery also has a longer battery life and lasts for 3.5 hours to 4 hours. This video will help you attach and adjust your Elite Strap with Battery.

Connecting the Meta Quest 2 to Wi-Fi

To use the Oculus Quest 2, you need to be connected to Wi-Fi. Luckily, this process is fairly simple and fast. You can either connect to Wi-Fi from your headset or use a mobile app on your phone.

To connect using the headset, open the main menu. Hover over the clock icon and select “Quick Settings” when the option appears. Next, choose “Wi-Fi.” Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

If you would prefer to use the Quest 2 app, simply turn on the headset but don’t put it on. Open the Quest 2 app and tap “Devices.” Next, select the headset that you want to use. It should pull up “Headset Settings” and allow you to connect to a Wi-Fi network through your phone.

Quest 2 Touch Controllers Setup

When you turn on the headset, the controllers will automatically connect. However, if they aren’t connecting, you can connect the controllers to the headset from your mobile app. Select “Pair new controller” and follow the instructions in the app.

The Quest 2 controllers are functional and comfortable, but they are different from a traditional gaming controller. Rather than being one unit, you have a controller for either hand. Each game will have a short tutorial to show you which buttons to use.

In general, the thumbstick will help you navigate (move forward, backwards, and side to side). The triggers will select objects, and the grip button will allow you to grasp objects.

Prepare a Space

To play comfortably, you’ll need unobstructed space in a room. Meta suggests having 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet. However, you can also use the device in “Stationary Mode” while sitting or standing in one place.

You should also set up Guardian, which helps you stay within your 6.5 by 6.5 play space. This guide will help you set up Guardian on your Oculus Quest 2.

Protect Your Meta Quest 2 with Upsie

The Quest 2 is one of the most unique gaming consoles. With the Quest 2, you can play immersive games in a VR environment. However, VR comes with risks of accidental damage to the headset and controllers. For example, it’s common for players to accidentally throw the controllers or drop the headset (especially when playing intensely interactive games). To protect your device from damage, consider purchasing an Upsie extended warranty for your Quest 2.

Upsie’s extended warranties cost up to 70% less than warranties sold elsewhere. In addition, Upsie protects from damage, including:

  • Damage from falls and drops
  • Liquid immersion
  • Dead pixels
  • Power failure
  • Battery failure
  • Speaker and sound issues
  • And more!

Customers can make unlimited claims up to the device’s purchase price. As a result, you get the best protection at the best price. You can purchase an Upsie warranty for gaming consoles bought in the last 60 days.
