Wristcam: The Next Best Apple Watch Accessory?

Apple Watch set the standard for wearables and continues to be the best-selling smartwatch. However, there was always something missing from the original design — a built-in camera. A company in California founded by ex-Apple developers has finally come up with a solution, Wristcam.

What is Wristcam?

Wristcam is the first-ever Apple Watch camera. It’s a watch band that includes both a front and rear-facing camera to catch all those special moments when you are not near your phone.
Most Apple Watch lovers would agree that the missing element was that Apple Watch didn’t have a camera built-in. Perhaps later versions will, but until then, Wristcam is filling the void.

All About Wristcam

The California company named Wristcam sells its product for $299. The watch band comes in a variety of colors, including a limited-edition sage green shade.

Photo and Video

The first camera is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera that you can use to take shots of the world as you see it. The other camera is a 2-megapixel camera that faces you to take selfies.
You can use both cameras to capture still shots and HD video up to 1080p resolution. Wristcam comes loaded with 8GB of onboard memory for storage of one hour of video or 2,000 images. Once you reconnect with your iPhone, you can transfer the content over via Wi-Fi. Wristcam uses Bluetooth to connect to the Apple Watch.

Water-Resistant

Thankfully, the watchband is water-resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, so if you are surfing, you won’t ruin the cameras. You charge the Wristcam using a magnetic USB cable. It takes roughly 3 hours to charge the band fully.

Privacy Concerns

Just like Apple, Wristcam cares about privacy, so they have included LED lights near each camera lens to show when they are in use. The watch band also includes a built-in microphone for recording audio and a button to capture photos on the go.

Compatibility

The great news is that Wristcam will work with Apple Watch Series 1-6 and all four size variations. Although the Apple Watch camera band is bulky and not super attractive, users love the added functionality. The watch band has been incredibly popular. For example, during the 2020 holiday season, Wristcam sold out of inventory.

Messaging

One downside is that you can’t use Wristcam for FaceTime calls yet. However, the developers created a workaround where you can use a specific messaging app to send short video clips back and forth between other Wristcam users.

Other Features

Wristcam also works with Siri Shortcuts, so you can easily snap a quick shot with a voice command. When you charge the device, your photos and videos are automatically transferred to your iPhone to free up the onboard memory. As a bonus, you even get new watch face complications (for photo and video) to add to your favorite watch faces.
Unfortunately, you can’t share photos or videos until you get back to your phone, but at least you won’t miss any shots. Although there are a few negatives, overall, Wristcam is the next best Apple Watch accessory you can buy!

Apple Watch Warranty

Apple Watch enriches users’ lives with its ability to tether to an iPhone, play music, make phone calls, pay for goods, and even track health statistics. However, the Apple Watch is pricey and has a lot of tiny moving pieces. With any electronic gadget that sophisticated, things could go wrong.
The Apple Watch comes with a limited warranty meant to protect the watch from manufacturing defects. However, the limited warranty lasts for just one year and excludes accidental damage protection.
Luckily, Upsie offers extended warranties for Apple Watches that protect the device from accidental damage, manufacturing defects, wear and tear, battery failure, and more. In addition, Upsie offers two-year and three-year warranties that cost up to 70% less than warranties from competitors. As a result, customers get the best protection at the best price.
You can purchase an Upsie warranty for smartwatches bought in the last 60 days. Upsie also offers warranties for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices.
