Here Is How to Set Up a New Amazon Kindle

In this modern digital world, readers no longer need a hardback book to enjoy their favorite stories. The market is saturated with various tablets and e-readers you can use to store hundreds of books and read them anywhere. Amazon’s Kindle is one of the most popular choices among e-readers. Here’s how to set up a new Kindle.

What is a Kindle?

Kindle is a line of electronic readers from Amazon that users can use to browse through a selection of books, purchase and download them, and read them from anywhere. Amazon offers a few different versions, such as the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis, and Amazon Kindle. Deciding which is the best e-reader will depend on your preferences. Each comes with specific features and a different price tag.

How to Set Up a New Kindle

Perhaps it is time to replace an older Kindle e-reader with a new one, or you may be a newcomer to the Kindle family. But either way here is how to set up a Kindle.
The first thing you want to do is download the Kindle app to your mobile phone. Typing on the Kindle device is not great, so you can use your phone to make the setup process smoother.
  1. Download the Kindle app to your smartphone.
  2. Sign in to your Amazon account. If you don’t have one, set up a new account and sign in.
  3. Turn on your Kindle and select your language. The power button is located at the bottom.
  4. Select your region and tap the Next button. After selecting your language and region, the Kindle will restart, and you will see a progress bar at the top.
  5. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password to add the Kindle to your network and give it internet access. The Kindle will automatically display a list of available networks to choose from. Find yours and tap on it, then enter your password to log in.
  6. Log into your Amazon account. If you haven’t set one up on your smartphone, do it now to easily enter the username/email and password on the Kindle device.
  7. If you have entered everything correctly, you will see a Welcome screen. Tap Next to continue.
Once the Kindle has finished setting up, you will see your home screen populated with suggested reading. Now it’s time to customize your device.

How to Customize Your Device

Visit the settings area by swiping down from the top of the Kindle screen. Tap All Settings. Choose Device Options from the menu. Next, tap Device Passcode and enter a security code to keep your Kindle safe. You must enter it twice before tapping Ok.
If you want to turn off personalized ads (for a Kindle with ads), go to Advanced Options, then Privacy, and choose Disable.
You may also want to edit your account settings. Swipe down again and choose All Settings and then Your Account. You can connect your Goodreads account if you have one. If you are setting up a Kindle for your child, you can also set the parental controls here to block access to unwanted content. You can also set up family members so each person can access their own library of books.

Change Your Reading and Display Settings

The final settings you may want to review are the reading and display settings. Unfortunately, you can only access them from inside a book. If you haven’t yet downloaded anything, use the Kindle User’s Guide that comes with it.
  1. Tap Library at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Open the Kindle User’s Guide.
  3. Tap the top of the screen and tap the Aa button to adjust your font settings. You can choose between three themes, “Compact,” “Standard,” and “Large,” depending on your preferences. You can also manually set the font size and layout (vertical/horizontal).
  4. Use the More button to set your reading progress indicator and other settings. You can also turn on the clock setting to view the time while you are reading.
Now it’s time to explore some books and enjoy using your new Kindle.

Secure Your Kindle Warranty Now

Buying any type of electronic device can be scary. There is a lot of technology under the hood, and once you start to depend on that device, what happens if something goes wrong?
The first thing you need to consider is the Kindle warranty. Let’s face it, most manufacturers’ warranties only cover inherent defects and only for a short time. In addition, manufacturers typically don’t cover accidental damage. If you accidentally damage your Kindle, you are left with a giant paperweight that doesn’t work.
The great news is that Upsie offers a fantastic extended Kindle warranty that covers accidental spills, cracks, drops, and water damage. Upsie also protects against manufacturing defects, early wear, battery or touch screen failure, and other damages.
If you are concerned about the cost of a premium warranty, don’t worry. Upsie’s coverage costs up to 70% less than manufacturers’ extended warranties and third-party offerings. In addition, Upsie offers 24/7 claims support, and customers can make unlimited claims up to the device’s purchase price.
Customers get the best protection at the best price when they choose to protect their tech with Upsie.
