GE Versus Frigidaire Refrigerators

There are 23 major refrigerator brands in the US in 2022. But hands down, two of the best are GE and Frigidaire. So if you’re looking to buy a new refrigerator, there’s a good chance you’re considering one of these brands. Which one is better, though? Let’s find out with an in-depth comparison of GE versus Frigidaire refrigerators, looking specifically at the price range, product selection, features, and maintenance.

Price Range

The most affordable GE product is the GE Double-Door Compact Refrigerator, which currently retails for $351. The most expensive GE product is the GE Profile Series 48” Smart Build-In Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser, which currently retails for $10,929. Most products, however, range between $3,300 to $4,000.
The most affordable Frigidaire refrigerator that includes a freezer (as opposed to a micro fridge) is the Frigidaire 3.1 Cu. Ft. Compact Refrigerator, which costs $409. The priciest product is the Frigidaire Professional 21.4 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth 4-Door French Door Refrigerator, which sells for $4,299. The average cost ranges from $2,600 to $3,300.
Therefore, you can usually expect to pay a bit less for Frigidaire products.

Product Selection

With 190 different refrigerators to choose from on its website, GE has far more products than Frigidaire at just 52. So if you’re looking for a wide selection, you’ll want to lean toward GE. That said, Frigidaire still has a sizable number of products. It’s just nowhere as many as GE.

Features

Both brands boast an impressive number of features. Some of the more notable from GE include easy-to-use temperature controls, door-in-door design, spill-proof shelves, an internal water dispenser, and multi-level drawers. Some models also have an ultra-compact ice maker on the door to maximize space and make more room for frozen foods.
As for Frigidaire, notable features include the Even Temp Cooling System to keep food fresher longer, Store-More gallon door bins and shelving to make room for large items like a gallon of milk, and humidity-controlled Effortless Glide crisper drawers. Certain models also have the PureSource ice and water filtration system that removes nearly all contaminants from water.
Overall, GE gets the slight edge for features.

Maintenance

“With economical design and fewer unnecessary moving parts, Frigidaire models often require less maintenance and thereby lead to additional savings,” explains Spencer’s TV and Appliance. “By contrast, GE fridges may require more frequent repairs and replacement of parts, which are likely needed to support their extra features.”
Note that GE refrigerators are usually fairly easy to fix, though, as they use American parts. And they also perform well when compared to many other products. But you’ll likely have more maintenance done on them than a Frigidaire refrigerator.

GE Versus Frigidaire Refrigerators: Who’s the Winner?

Let’s recap. GE has a larger product selection and more features than Frigidaire. However, Frigidaire refrigerators are more affordable than GE refrigerators and require less maintenance.
If you’re on a tight budget and just need a basic refrigerator without a lot of extras, Frigidaire is usually the way to go. If you want to browse through a wide variety of products and want a lot of cutting-edge features, GE is your best bet.
Regardless of your choice, know that both brands offer quality products, and this is one of the closest comparisons we’ve done for refrigerators.

Is an Extended Refrigerator Warranty Worth It?

Besides choosing the actual product, another important decision is deciding whether or not to buy an extended warranty. The short answer is yes. We almost always suggest getting an extended warranty for both GE and Frigidaire refrigerators. Here’s why.
First, a refrigerator of any kind is a large investment (typically $2,600 or more as we discussed earlier), and the average cost of a repair is $200 to $300.
Next, most manufacturer warranties only last one year. During that time you’re covered for basic issues stemming from mechanical defects or defects in workmanship. Once that year ends, however, the manufacturer is no longer responsible. Instead, you’ll have to pay for repairs and replacements out of pocket.
And finally, extended coverage is fairly affordable — at least if you get it from a third-party provider like Upsie rather than a big box retailer. Upsie’s large appliance warranties cost up to 70% less than warranties from competitors and retailers. You can get a full overview of the plans that are available here.
You can purchase an Upsie warranty for refrigerators bought in the 11 months.
