The release of the Steam Deck docking station has generated a lot of buzz as of late. The sweet new add-on, which props up the Steam Deck
while connecting it to external displays, wired networks, USB peripherals, and power, looks quite promising. And many gaming enthusiasts have been excited to get their hands on it. Unfortunately, the expected release date of late Spring 2022 has been pushed back. Here’s what you need to know.
The Original Steam Deck Docking Station Announcement
Initially, the company announced the docking station would be available in late Spring 2022 and that users could add it to their Steam wishlist to be notified when it’s ready to order. However, things have since changed, and it seems the product won’t be available by late Spring 2022 after all.
With the last day of Spring on June 21, 2022 — just 6 days away from the time of this writing — it looks like the originally anticipated release date won’t happen.
A Recent Update About the Steam Deck Docking Station
On June 1, 2022, Valve made an update
about the upcoming product on their blog, saying the following:
“Hi all. Due to parts shortages and COVID closures at our manufacturing facilities, the official Steam Deck Docking Station is delayed. We’re working on improving the situation and will share more info when we have it. This has no effect on production schedule and reservation windows for Steam Decks (different parts, different factories). In the meantime, the team is continuing to work on improving the docked experience for Steam Deck with all USB-C hubs and external displays.”
That’s all there is to go on at the moment. Like many businesses, Valve is feeling the backlash of supply chain hiccups stemming from COVID. And it’s been enough to temporarily halt the release of the much-anticipated docking station.
It seems that the company is doing everything it can to remedy the situation and is keeping users in the loop with this and other news. The silver lining is that it’s giving them time to refine the docked experience, so the final product will likely turn out even better than it would have originally.
At the moment, there’s no official time on when the new release date will be. But for up-to-date news about the situation, you can add the Steam Deck Docking Station to your wishlist
to ensure you’re notified whenever things change.
What About a Steam Deck Warranty?
With its release on February 22, 2022, the Steam Deck is one of the newest handheld gaming computers on the market. And by and large, it’s been a hit with most gamers. The reception has been largely positive, with over 3,000 verified or playable games
already available and more being added all the time.
One important area to mention, however, is the warranty. The Steam Deck manufacturer’s warranty lasts for one year and covers defects stemming from poor workmanship. But once that period ends, users are no longer covered.
Given the basic version of the Steam Deck with 64GB eMMC internal storage costs $399 and goes up to $649 for the higher-end version with 512GB NVMe SSD internal storage, it’s a sizable investment. That’s why we recommend getting an Upsie extended Steam Deck warranty
to protect your device.
Upsie costs up to 70% less than warranties from competitors. In addition, Upsie includes accidental damage protection and offers unlimited claims up to the purchase price of the device.
Customers can also make claims 24/7 to ensure fast repairs and replacements. And you always have full control of your plans through Upsie.com. Learn more about how Upsie works and find comprehensive protection for the Steam Deck on Upsie’s website today.
