How Can Smartphone Users Connect With 5G?
Depending upon location, smartphone users can already use 5G features for connection speeds as much as ten times faster than with 4G. Some of the major carriers that have begun to provide this service in some areas include
T-Mobile,
AT&T, and
Verizon. Of course, even users within the network's reach will need both a phone plan that includes 5G and of course, a 5G phone.
Because it has not yet grown as pervasive as 4G, people with the right phones and service plans may not yet enjoy the full benefits that 5G promises.
According to PCMag, that situation may change within the next couple of years as carriers expand their reach. Anybody who wants to invest in a future-proof phone should consider comparing 5G phones now. Like internet and phone connectivity in general, 5G promises to get better as it evolves and expands.
Compare Today's 5g Smartphones
Phones need to offer 5G connectivity to access these new, high-speed networks. Take a quick look at comparisons of new and upcoming smartphones that support 5G.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Vs. Galaxy Note S20
According to CNet, the
Galaxy Note 20 and
S20 compare favorably with any top-tier phones, including the
iPhone 11 Pro, new
iPhone 12, or
Huawei P40 Pro. Both versions also come in a basic and an Ultra model and have 5G-connectivity enabled. The S20 Ultra comes with a somewhat better camera than the other models, and the base S20 is the smallest and lightest of the new models.
Samsung launched the base models of both the Note 20 and S20 at $999. The Samsung Note S20 Ultra costs $1,300 for 128GB and $1,450 for 512GB. Meanwhile, Samsung priced the S20 Ultra at $1,399 for 128GB and $1,599 for 512GB.
OnePlus 8 Vs. OnePlus 8 Pro
OnePlus launched the
OnePlus 8 and
8 Pro in April, 2020. They priced the OnePlus 8 at $700 and the Pro at $900, though it's possible to find discounts now. The Spapdragon 865 chipset, 5G connectivity, and larger batteries compare favorably with Samsung Galaxy note phones. The base model has a 4,300mAh battery, and the Pro has 4,510mAh battery.
The Pro also has a slightly larger screen with somewhat better resolution, but it also weighs about half an ounce more. Neither model has expandable storage, but the Samsung Note phones do. Both OnePlus models run Android 10, but the even newer 8T comes with Android 11. According to OnePlus, people who bought the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro can upgrade their operating systems to Android 11 on their own.
Google Pixel 4A 5G Vs. Pixel 5
Google just recently launched the
Pixel 4A, but customers can already order the
Pixel 4A 5G and
Pixel 5. As the name implies, the 4A 5G offers 5G connectivity, and of course, so does the Pixel 5.
The 4A lacks some features that come with Google's new top-tier phone, the Pixel 5. These premium features include:
- A higher refresh rate
- The ability to charge other devices or accessories
- Water resistance
On the other hand, the 4A 5G still has a jack for headphones, plus a slightly larger display. Google priced the Pixel 5 at $699. The Pixel 4A 5G costs $499.
Other Ways to Future-Proof Your Smartphone
This review only covered Android phones, but Apple fans might want to see this previous post on the
5G-enabled iPhone 12 for a comparison. Besides choosing the right phone, it's almost as important to shop for the best phone warranty. Instead of impulsively purchasing a protection plan at the counter, be certain to compare
Upsie warranties.
Rather than offering phone insurance as an afterthought, Upsie offers warranties on phones, appliances, electronics, and many other products. That may explain why they can provide comprehensive protection against typical hazards, quick local or mail-in repairs, and 24/7/365 claims service. Best of all, Upsie usually beats their competitor's prices.
