The Big Product Reveals at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022

Big hardware announcements have become an event unto themselves. Gone are the days of every device maker waiting until the Consumer Electronics Show to unveil their new wares to the press and public.
The perfect example? Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event of 2022, which has become a highly anticipated tradition. This extravaganza delivers a host of exciting new product announcements, teasers, and updates on existing devices.
Galaxy Unpacked 2022 was yet another noteworthy event, with the debut of the next iteration of Galaxy phones and tablets. We’ll go over what the event covered and what it promises for Samsung's future.

Galaxy S22 Smartphone

This year's Galaxy Unpacked event was a tight, one-hour presentation that focused exclusively on the new Galaxy S22 phone and Galaxy Tab S8 tablet. These devices had been rumored for a while, so it was nice to finally see them out in the open.
Samsung's Galaxy smartphone brand has been immensely popular, especially the high-end models featuring bleeding-edge tech. The Galaxy S22 line aims to take the baton from the S21 models and run with it. While these new phones may lack a catchy name, they boast premium performance. Here's how all three versions of the S22 stack up in terms of screen size and battery life:
  • S22: 6.1-inch dynamic AMOLED screen. 3,700mAh battery.
  • S22 Plus: 6.6-inch dynamic AMOLED screen. 4,500mAh battery.
  • S22 Ultra: Curved 6.8-inch dynamic AMOLED edge display. 5,000mAh battery.
All three versions boast at least 8 GB of RAM, with the Ultra model available with 12 GB. Each version is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, giving these phones phenomenal performance capabilities.
The camera array on the Ultra is significantly beefed up over the lower two models. It has a 108MP wide lens in addition to 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto lenses that are also standard. The Ultra also supports Samsung's S Pen. This can't be said for the 22 and 22 Plus. Another benefit of the Ultra? The ability to step up to a version featuring 512 GB of storage.
While the S22 isn't exactly the next evolution of the Galaxy smartphone, it's a notable step up from the S21. Galaxy fanatics who crave the latest and greatest smartphone from a trusted brand should find a lot to love about this new release.

Galaxy Tab S8

An ultra-competitive market just got a shot in the arm from Samsung. The Galaxy Tab S8 has been so successful, Samsung had to halt pre-orders before the device was even made available in stores.
As with the Galaxy smartphones, Samsung offers three versions of the Galaxy Tab S8. Take a look at how the screens and battery life compare:
  • S8: 11-inch LCD screen. 8000mAh battery.
  • S8 Plus: 12.4-inch AMOLED screen. 10,090mAh battery.
  • S8 Ultra: 14.6-inch AMOLED screen. 11,200mAh battery.
All three devices are powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip that's found in the S22 phone lineup. The entry-level S8 and the Plus are available with just one configuration: 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Thankfully, the Ultra models offer a bump up with 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB pairings available.
As with the S22 phones, the new tablets feel like a tiny step forward instead of a giant leap. Fans expecting something truly groundbreaking may have to wait until the inevitable late summer edition of Galaxy Unpacked 2022.

Prices and Availability

It should come as no surprise that, moments after the unveiling, both product lineups were racking up pre-orders.
