All About the iOS 16 Operating System

On June 6, 2022, Apple unveiled some iOS 16 operating system features. Coming this fall, iOS 16 contains many new features and updates that will make iPhones much more customizable, accessible, and easy to use. Here are some of the features of the new iOS 16.

iOS 16 Personalization

The introduction of widgets to the Apple iPhone made the home screen much more customizable. iOS 16 takes this a step further.

Lock Screen

Lock screens, like home screens, can now be customized. Users can select their fonts, show their favorite photos, and add widgets to see all the necessary information at a glance. You can even create multiple lock screens and easily switch between them.
Notifications now appear at the bottom of the screen, so they are out of the way, and can be viewed in a list view, stacked view, or completely hidden. You can also track live events on your lock screen, like the game score or food delivery tracking information.

Focus

Personalized focus settings aren’t new, but iOS 16 allows you to customize your focus view further. You can create specific lock and home screens to display while in focus mode to limit distractions without hiding vital information. You can also restrict notifications, so only the important ones come through. If you are in Work focus, you can screen notifications to see only messages related to your work. This way, you stay focused without missing important messages.

iOS 16 Sharing and Communication

Smartphones keep you connected to your family and friends. iOS 16 has many new features that help you more easily communicate and share various types of content.

Messages

We’ve all made typos while texting or sent a text to the wrong person. iOS 16 allows you to edit or delete recently sent text messages so you can always be clear with your communication. You can also mark messages as unread so you can return to them later without leaving the sender on read.
Messages now go beyond texting. You can use shared playback controls to watch shows and movies or listen to music with friends and family all in your conversation. You can also share notes, presentations, reminders, Safari tabs, and more for increased collaboration, whether it’s with colleagues, friends, or classmates.

iCloud Library

Sending a lot of pictures to your friends can be a hassle. In iOS 16, you can make an iCloud library that you share with others. Everyone who has access to it can add to it, and you can take photos that will go right into the library in your camera app. Create a library by starting it on a certain day or selecting every image in which certain people appear. Then, seamlessly share your favorite memories.

Safari

You can send messages and start Facetime in the Safari app for easy content sharing. You can also create Safari folders that you share with family and friends. For example, you could create a folder of recipes you share with your family. Everyone who has access to the folder can add tabs for easy planning and sharing.

iOS 16 Health and Fitness

Apple Health has received an update and can now track more than ever. For example, the new medications tab helps you keep track of the medications you need to take daily or as needed and can even provide information on what they do.
The Fitness app is no longer just for Apple Watch users. Instead, the iPhone Fitness app uses Apple iPhone sensors to track movements and exercise. You can view all of your workouts in the app and see how well you did against your daily move goal. You can also see how many steps you took, and the distance you went. In addition, the new app will estimate how many calories you burned.

iOS 16 Automation and Other Updates

Apple also released other updates that are helpful for iPhone users. These updates have improved Mail, Camera, Maps, and more.

Mail

The Mail app now has improved search and search suggestions to make it easier to find what you are looking for. It also includes many features that other eMail apps, such as Gmail, already have. This includes the ability to undo a sent email, schedule send, and follow-up notifications.

Camera and Photos

Users can now use live text capabilities in the Camera and Photos apps to copy, translate, look up, and convert text that appears in a photo or the camera. You can also pause a video to copy, share, and interact with text captured in a video. Additionally, you can separate an image from its background in a photo to copy and share.

Maps

The improved maps app will be more competitive with apps like Google Maps with the new ability to add multiple stops. Users can also add their transit cards to their Apple Wallet for use in the Maps app. In addition, maps will now show the trip cost and allow you to reload a card without leaving the app.

Apple Wallet

With Apple Pay, you can now split a purchase into four payments spread over six weeks without interest. In addition, from the Wallet app, you can view receipts and track online orders. And now, you can share virtual key cards with others, controlling their access and revoke it at any time. You can also upload your ID to your wallet for in-app identification.

Compatibility With iOS 16

It’s important to keep your phone up to date on the latest software. iOS 16 will be compatible with iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 8, and later generations of the iPhone.
