Robot vacuums are now becoming increasingly powerful and therefore more capable than ever, including when it comes to pet hair. For a long time, robot vacuums were limited in what they could achieve. Intended primarily to keep on top of small amounts of dust and the occasional crumb, they weren’t a
replacement for upright models and more regular hands-on cleaning with other devices.
For example, early models would quickly become blocked after encountering even a small amount of pet hair. Now, however, models designed to overcome such obstacles can tackle all of this and more. With that, they’re increasingly turning into a must-have for proud cat and dog owners.
Shedding and Dander Require Careful Consideration
With some models costing upwards of $1,000, choosing the best robot vacuum requires careful consideration. Features like built-in cameras and Google Assistant support are becoming commonplace. Yet, as far as staying on top of dander and shedding from pets, it’s things like maximum suction power that are the most important.
Accordingly, three models stand out. These are the budget-friendly ILIFE V3s Pro and two more expensive options from ECOVACS and Proscenic.
ILIFE V3s Pro
When it comes to the suction of vacuum cleaners, their power is
measured in pascals. The higher the number, the more powerful it is. The
ILIFE V3s Pro, for example, gets around 1,000 pascals of suction power. On par with many similarly priced alternatives, ideally, this number would be higher for dealing with pet hair.
Yet, the best-selling $165 ILIFE model has something of a trick up its sleeve. That’s because it primarily uses a wide suction opening rather than a rolling brush to pick up hair and other debris. Accordingly, it’s far more capable of tackling pet hair than its figures may suggest. As such, it’s something of a bargain, costing around one-third of the price of other robot vacuums rated highly in dealing with pet hair.
Best suited to hard floors, it’ll also work on low-pile carpets. So, while it’s relatively basic, it should serve a good number of potential buyers looking for an affordable robot vacuum for pet hair.
Proscenic M7 Pro Pet Hair Vacuum
Unlike with more traditional vacuums, many of the top-rated robotic models for dealing with pet hair aren’t necessarily those marketed as such. The
Proscenic M7 Pro is an excellent case in point. So, despite not being explicitly geared toward pet owners, it boasts various features that make it perfect for them. These include a HEPA filter and, crucially, basic robotic mopping functionality – perfect for potentially mopping up any little accidents.
At the same time, the $499 Proscenic M7 Pro isn’t an inexpensive proposition, especially compared to the ILIFE V3s Pro. Where it excels, though, is in terms of suction power. While the V3s Pro boasts around 1,000 pascals, the M7 Pro from Proscenic has a much more impressive 2,700Pa of suction power. As a result, it’s great at getting pet hair and dander out of medium-pile carpeting.
Other perks of choosing the Proscenic M7 Pro include various scheduling options and boundary zones as well as remote, app, and smart assistant controls. It also boasts one of the longest-running times of any robot vacuum at up to 270 minutes.
ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+ Pet Hair Vacuum
Finally, and for those looking to spend more, there’s the
ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+. The Deebot N8 Pro+’s MSRP of almost $800 will no doubt put many buyers off. However, it’s currently on offer for $555.99 when purchased directly from the manufacturer. With that, it’s around half of the cost of the comparable model from current market leader iRobot’s Roomba lineup.
So, what makes the ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+ one of the best robot vacuums for pet hair? Like the Proscenic M7 Pro, it gets a comparable suction power of 2,600Pa, and things just get better from there. Because, as with the M7 Pro, it also gets mopping functionality. And unlike with the cheaper alternative, where this is a secondary selling point, the ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+ can both vacuum and mop with incredible efficiency at the same time with auto-carpet detection.
It’s also self-emptying, boasts laser navigation, and can operate on a fully automated basis. So, while its running time is somewhat less than that of the Proscenic at around 110 minutes, smart self-emptying and auto-charging allow for almost continuous cleaning.
Other highlights include hands-free control with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa and a three-layer dust filtration system that removes 99 percent of microparticle matter and allergens. It also uses self-sealing hypoallergenic disposable dust bags that fit the Deebot’s charging station, into which it automatically empties itself once full of pet hair and other debris.
