PlayStation Showcase Recap: Release Dates and Reveals

After sitting out this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sony is back in the news with the PlayStation Showcase. The recent PlayStation Showcase 2021 offered a glimpse into the future of the PlayStation 5 with many big reveals, release dates and much-anticipated trailers. Keep reading to learn about everything that Sony unveiled during the PlayStation Showcase.

PlayStation’s Continued Reliance on Remakes

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Knights of the Old Republic, or KOTOR, is one of the most beloved games on the original Xbox. It helped Microsoft compete against Sony and Nintendo. Now, PlayStation has struck a deal to be the exclusive console home to the remake. With a host of next-generation improvements and additions, this remake is sure to keep Star Wars fans happy.

Grand Theft Auto V Coming to PlayStation 5

GTAV and GTA Online have held up over the years as some of the most successful entertainment properties of all time. Still, as a game that’s been given away for free on PC and ported to just about every platform other than the Nintendo Switch, it’s hard to get excited about playing it again on the PlayStation 5.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series boasted two excellent releases on the PlayStation 4. So it’s only natural that they would get ported to the current generation console. Thief’s EnUncharted 4: Ad and Uncharted: Lost Legacy will both get native 4K support and enhanced functionality with the DualSense controller.

Alan Wake Remastered

A cult hit on the Xbox 360, Alan Wake is making its PlayStation debut in October. Fans can relieve this action-thriller from the creators of Max Payne 3 on the PlayStation 4 and 5 and see what all the hype was about.

Fresh Looks at God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7

What would a big PlayStation event be without a glimpse at God of War? Ragnarok continues the story that started in 2018’s re-imagining of the series, so expect another heaping helping of Norse mythology, stern parenting, and open-world exploration.
Gran Turismo is also back, with a new trailer and a March 4, 2022 release date. With an insane amount of cars to choose from, GT7 should give simulation racing fans everything they want. However, as with the new God of War, it’s also coming out on PlayStation 4. As such, players should temper their expectations.

New Game Reveals from Square Enix and Gearbox

Luminous Productions and Square Enix have announced Forspoken — a fantastic looking action-RPG. While it looks like it has all the trappings of today’s Triple-A open-world action games, the development team makes some big promises. Most notably, graphics and visuals will blow away anything fans have seen before.
The Borderlands series is known for its hectic looter shooter design and colorful cast of characters. One of the most beloved (or in some cases, hated) characters is now the star of their own game. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands puts the sassy sprite front and center. This should give fans of the series enough guns and gear to keep them grinding along for hours. Its release date is March 25, 2022.

Ghostwire: Tokyo and Project Eve Are Looking Good

Giving off serious Devil May Cry vibes, Project Eve raised a lot of eyebrows with a stunning new trailer. It features stylish brawling action and gorgeous visuals and is a title to keep an eye on. Since it’s exclusively on the PlayStation 5, it should put the new hardware through its paces.
Tango Gameworks, creators of The Evil Within series, is back with Ghostwire: Tokyo. In this first-person action/horror game, the DualSense controller and its haptic feedback should provide a level of immersive control not yet seen in many PlayStation 5 titles.

Protect Your Console With an Extended Warranty
