All About the 55-Inch Samsung Odyssey Ark Monitor

Famed for its huge 49-inch Odyssey G9 display, Samsung has once again upped the stakes when it comes to giant monitors. With that, the multinational manufacturing conglomerate has shown off its all-new 55-inch Odyssey Ark curved screen.

This monitor is frankly gigantic and boasts a unique, specially designed stand in its vertical position. Overall, the four-and-a-half-foot behemoth literally arcs over users’ heads. Samsung unveiled it at CES 2022 in Las Vegas, which concluded on January 8. At its release, it wasn’t immediately clear whether the Odyssey Ark was simply a concept, a prototype, or a product that Samsung genuinely intended to sell.

However, the manufacturer has now confirmed that it’ll be a case of the latter. The Samsung Odyssey Ark curved monitor is expected to hit shelves later this year.

Thus far, Samsung has remained somewhat tight-lipped as far as providing further details about its 55-inch Odyssey Ark monitor. To date, there’s been no mention of prospective pricing, for example. However, the manufacturer has stated that it will go on sale in the U.S. in the second half of 2022.

Unlike many existing huge monitors, the Odyssey Ark aims at a wide range of consumers. Its range includes committed dual screen users, graphic designers, video editors, and gamers. That’s according to a Samsung spokesperson, at least. However, it’s still likely to appeal mostly to hardcore gamers.

Samsung’s current largest monitor, the Odyssey G9, retails for $1,599. In addition, the 49-inch gaming-focused display has routinely been discounted down to around $1,500. Right now, it’s anyone’s guess how much an extra six inches will increase the price.

Ultimately, a ballpark price tag of around $2,000 doesn’t seem unrealistic or unreasonable. At the same time, there have also been one or two unofficial suggestions that the Samsung Odyssey Ark is likely to retail for $2,499. All of that said, the actual cost could prove to be far in excess of either of these amounts — time to start saving.

Samsung offers only limited information at the moment. As a result, just a small handful of the 55-inch Samsung Odyssey Ark’s features have been officially confirmed. These include 4K resolution, mini LED backlighting, a 16:9 aspect ratio, quantum dot color, and a smart-looking wireless controller for lighting changes and other adjustments.

The Samsung Odyssey Ark curved monitor boasts an ergonomic height-adjustable stand with pivot and tilt functionality. Particularly in vertical mode, this should provide an entirely new experience, whether gaming, multitasking, or using the massive 55-inch arc-shaped display for something else entirely.

A Twitter post made on January 5 by CES 2022 attendee Tim Schofield showed off the Samsung Odyssey Ark’s abilities in this regard particularly well. A follow-up tweet from the professional content creator also added a couple of extra images of the Odyssey Ark curved screen in use for six in total between the two posts.

As it stands, the 55-inch Samsung Odyssey Ark curved display is still several months away at the earliest. At launch, buyers will undoubtedly be keen to protect their purchases with an extended warranty or protection plan. Samsung offers a warranty in the shape of its Extended Warranty Program. However, a number of other options are also available.
