Apple iPhone SE 3 Specs, Price and Details

Apple's much-anticipated third-generation iPhone SE is here, and based on its specs, it looks like it's been worth waiting for. Better still, the wait hasn't necessarily been as long as many had anticipated.
The original iPhone SE first debuted back in 2016. A revised version then arrived in 2020. This four-year gap between SE models suggested that a follow-up may not be due until 2024. However, rumors from late last year have proved true. With that, the start of 2022 has brought with it Apple's latest SE-spec iPhone.
So, what's in store? From an incredible chip to an advanced new camera system, read on to learn about the iPhone SE 3, its specs, and other details.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Spec

It's no surprise that Apple has stuck with its proven iPhone SE formula for the third-generation model. Both existing iPhone SEs have been a massive hit with Apple customers. The iPhone SE and iPhone SE 2 offered Apple's iconic smartphone design and excellent performance with an affordable price tag. The iPhone SE 3 offers much the same.

iPhone SE 3 Chip

The iPhone SE 3 kicks off proceedings with the inclusion of Apple's powerful A15 Bionic chip. It's the same chip found across the much more expensive iPhone 13 lineup, including in the flagship 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. So, while the 4.7-inch SE 3 is rather smaller, it'll perform just as well as its larger and significantly costlier stablemate.

iPhone SE 3 Display

In terms of display, the iPhone SE 3 gets an identical screen to its predecessor, the SE 2. So, while it's hardly groundbreaking, it's largely unsurprising, given the relatively short two-year gap between SE models.
At the same time, it must be noted that the SE 2's display was far from new two years ago. In fact, it's the same screen found on iPhone models as far back as 2017's iPhone 8, meaning that the display on the SE 3 is now five years old.

iPhone SE 3 Storage

iPhone SE 3 buyers can choose between 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB handsets. Storage capacities of 512GB and 1TB remain the preserve of costlier non-SE models. It's the same story with things like Face ID, too. The SE 3 features Apple's previously ubiquitous, but now increasingly rare, Home button and Touch ID functionality instead.

iPhone SE 3 Battery

One of the most impressive iPhone SE 3 specs is its battery. Apple promises what they call the latest generation of battery chemistry. As a result, the SE 3 boasts a significantly longer battery life than the SE 2. These innovations in so-called battery chemistry mean that the SE 3 outperforms all previous-generation 4.7-inch iPhone models on the same front as well.
The iPhone SE 3 and its new battery are also compatible with Qi-certified wireless chargers. In addition, fast charging is possible with a 20-watt adapter or higher.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Features

While the iPhone SE 3 was never going to be as feature-packed as the flagship iPhone 13, it's far from disappointing. And while it looks identical to the existing SE 2, it packs in more functionality than the 2020 model. Among the highlights are:
  • Advanced new camera system
  • 5G connectivity as standard
  • Aerospace-grade aluminum and glass design
  • IP67 waterproofing and dust-resistance rating
  • Choice of black, white, and red finishes
Something that Apple has seemingly chosen not to shout about is the iPhone SE 3's RAM. The latest-generation SE model now packs 4GB of memory, up from the 3GB found in the SE 2.
While that's an improvement, it's some way behind similarly priced Android handsets, including several older models. Last year's largely comparable Google Pixel 5a, for example, packs 6GB – 50 percent more than the new SE 3.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Camera

One of the iPhone SE 3's biggest advances, further to its A15 chip, comes in the shape of its camera. Made possible thanks almost entirely to its cutting-edge processor, the advanced camera on the iPhone SE 3 promises features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion. It's a picture-taking experience more akin to that on the various iPhone 13 models and one that's streets ahead of the SE 2.
That said, it still misses out on features like Night mode, Animoji and Memoji support. It’s also missing the 2x optical zoom found on the iPhone 11 and later. The iPhone SE 3's video-recording abilities and front-facing camera are both much more akin to those found on the SE 2, too, rather than any current flagship handset.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Pricing

In light of the ongoing global chip shortage, it was always unlikely that the iPhone SE 3 would cost the same as its predecessor. So, despite both the original iPhone SE and the SE 2 launching at $399, the SE 3 comes to market with a price tag of $429. That's for the 64GB model, while the most expensive 256GB version costs $579.
Thankfully, it's not a huge increase in price considering the various supply chain issues that all manufacturers are currently facing.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Warranty

The iPhone SE 3 comes with great specs, but only a standard limited warranty. And while it's possible to upgrade this limited degree of warranty coverage with AppleCare+, it's a costly proposition.
The high cost of AppleCare+ is especially pertinent in this instance, being somewhat at odds with the affordable ethos of the iPhone SE itself. Thankfully, iPhone SE 3 buyers can make alternative arrangements with Upsie.

Upgrade With Upsie

Upsie's Smartphone Subscription Warranties are available for all iPhone models, including the SE 3. With an extended iPhone SE 3 warranty, Upsie customers are comprehensively protected against manufacturing defects, mechanical faults, and other failures. In addition, because customers pay monthly for the subscription, their protection won't expire.
All-important accidental damage protection is also included, safeguarding against drops, spills, and other mishaps. Crucially, all of this and more is available for just $9.99 per month. It's something that's made possible by cutting out unnecessary middlemen and dealing directly with Upsie's warranty experts.
Upsie customers can even request to have their iPhone SE 3s repaired at the Genius Bar in the event of any issues, just like with AppleCare+. Find out more at upsie.com/smartphone-warranty/iphone or by downloading the Upsie iPhone app from the App Store.
